The Smart Tech for Firearms Challenge will accept applications from January 28, 2014 to March 31, 2014.
The Challenge seeks solutions from innovators who develop technology for a firearm that reliably authorizes an approved user and blocks an unauthorized user of the firearms.
Before beginning your online application below, please review our Challenge Terms and prepare a full overview of your technology. Your application will consist of a 3-5 page white paper with an overview of the technology and a request for funding. Review all application questions here before beginning your application, as you will not be able to change your answers once your application is submitted. Review Frequently Asked Questions here.
Innovators may apply for funding at one of three stages of technological readiness: 1) with a design only, for funding up to $10,000; 2) a prototype of smart technology not applied to a firearm, for funding up to $50,000 and 3) a prototype of smart technology applied to a firearm, for funding up to $100,000. There is $200,000 available for merit-based awards at the end of the challenge, which the judges will allocate at their discretion.
All proposals will be reviewed by an expert judging panel and may receive progress grants according to Challenge milestones.
